As has become almost a given the sun shone for the Market Harborough minis festival and the u10s had a spring in their step seeing off the opposition.

Game 1 – MH 5 V Towcestrians 1
Well known as a well drilled unit, Towcestrians were first up for MH in their own festival. After losing the toss the home side quickly turned over possession and showed good early pace to create attacking opportunities though Oliver and Matty . Despite flair out wide the opening try came from Ethan S with a typical direct run following a penalty 15m out. The next try was straight off the training paddock, one end of the pitch to the other, with the forwards and backs linking well. Started by Ethan and Ben the ball was spread wide through Oliver and Callum to put Adam away in the corner. Adam added a second before half time capitalising on some loose play by Towcester.
Oliver scored himself just after the break in true poaching fashion before adding another, running the length of the pitch announcing the return of the ‘snake hips’. Towcester didn’t go down without a fight a snatched a consolation score just before time.

Game 2 – MH 2 V Hinckley 0
Hinckley started strongly as was expected. It took a loose pass from them to open the game up for Adam to race away down the flank outpacing the cover defence to score in the corner. He added another before half time following a break by Josh.
Harborough’s confidence was growing and the home team thought they had extended scored early in the second half through another close range effort by Ethan only for the try to be disallowed. MH continued to search to extend their lead with good link play between Sam and Matty but Hinckley absorbed all that was thrown at them and the game concluded 2-0.

Game 3 – MH 2 V Rushden 1
Rushden had set the early running in MH’s side of the draw and were the team to beat. Despite losing the toss again the boys hit the ground running with an early score by Callum. With more great passing in the mid field the home side appeared to be on top and dominated possession until half time. Against the run of play Rushden scored to level after the break which resulted in the game developing in to a more physical affair. Despite some robust play by the opposition MH used brains rather than brawn to craft the decisive score through a drive from Ethan to put Matty away in the corner. Some solid defence in the closing couple of minutes shut the game out against an increasing agitated opposition.

Game 4 – MH 5 V ON’S 0
With qualification for the final already assured after Hinckley’s victory over Rushden the home side let loose in the final pool game with 2 early tries. The first from Matty after a deft off load by Sam and the second by Callum resulting from some great inter passing between Josh, Fergus and Sam. Matty went over again before half time following an interception. MH dominated the second half and scored 2 further tries through Sam who was having his best game in a Harborough shirt. Confidence high the boys went into the final on the back of a comprehensive 5-0 win.

The Final MH 2 V Olney 0
MH finally won the toss to start with possession. The home side had the early measure of the Olney team and scored through Finn. MH starved Olney of possession but were unable to convert pressure into points. Olney nearly levelled before half time only to be thwarted by a last gasp cover tackle from Finn.
The second half saw MH tighten their grip on the game resulting in a well worked score crafted from their own try line. Started by Adam and Oliver followed by some quick rucking from the industrious Ben, Josh raced in from the half way line to wrap up the victory.

With 2 Festival wins in as many weeks the under tens take confidence and momentum into the Prima cup finals at the Tigers next weekend.
