Market Harborough u10s Destroyers travelled to Nuneaton to participate in their long festival. Despite not losing a game the two draws against equally strong opposition saw them finish 3rd.

Team – Fergus, Jonny, Ben, Oliver, Max, Adam, Alex, Callum, Rowan, Dan P and Charlie

First game of the day saw the Destroyers face Nuneaton A. Straight into their stride Harborough put the hosts under great pressure but despite being on top it took until just before half time for Alex to cross the whitewash. Straight from the restart the team showed its defensive tackling skills especially by Ben and Charlie. A steal by Max saw him streak over the try line to score a second for the team. Towards the end Destroyers put themselves under pressure with the odd poor pass but held out to finish the game 2-0 winners.

Vs Vipers A. Straight from the refs whistle Destroyers showed fantastic team work to facilitate a final cross over the line by Alex. The rest of the half followed a similar pattern with passing and strength in all play – tries by Ben (2), Alex and Adam meant the team lead 5-0 at half time. The second half was much like the first with Destroyers in full domination, strong runs by Danand Jonny; and tackles by Charlie, Ben and Adam resulting in another three tries by Rowan (2) and Fergus.

Vs Market Bosworth. Rowan first crossed the whitewash from almost the first play and then the team, following Callum, demonstrated great resilience as Bosworth threated the line for a good few minutes before it was breached. The response was swift with Rowan starting on one wing and scoring after a dazzling run in the far opposite corner. Half time saw the score 2-1. The second half was all Destroyers with tries for Adam and Max. Final whistle blew at 4-1

Vs Old Leamingtonians
. It was clear from watching other games in the league that this was going to be a very physical game, however for most of the first half Destroyers applied great pressure and remained camped in the oppositions half. Constant strong tackles from the three musketeers – Ben, Charlie and Callum stopped the O.Ls from playing their game. Fergus recovered quickly from a hand in his face to produce a brilliant try saving tackle. The stalemate was broken after a delightful pass move by Dan freed Rowan to cross the line. Just before half time O.Ls equalised. The second half was characterised by bitty play with both teams thwarting the others play. Only two tries resulted with Ben scoring the last minute equaliser. Final score 2-2

Vs Oadby Wiggs . This was a game almost similar in format to the old tag game, First one try one end then the other against familiar opposition who relied on their big strong runner to keep their team scoring. The result was a five try draw with Alex(2) , Adam, Max and Rowan scoring for Destroyers.

The scoring of the festival meant that Destroyers came second in their league with 11 points. This meant they were to face Nuneaton B in the ¾ place play off.

Vs Nuneaton B A one sided game with Destroyers totally dominating their opposition through team work, passing, pressure play and strong tackles. Half time was 2-0 after tries from Adam and Alex and the second half saw another three from Max (2) and Adam.

Well played boys – 26 tries scored and only conceded 8 but no games lost.
