Back to back success in the Joules Cup

The U10's traveled down to Olney who over the passed few years have proved great opposition both on and off the field, with a similar sized squad to Harborough they they offer us the chance to play all 4 squads at the same venue.

All four mixed ability squads played 2 games before both Olney and Harborough looked to mix around the squads to allow the coaches to have a look at the probable/possible players for the Prima Cup squad and the remaining players continuing to play a further game on a mixed ability basis.

The All Blacks won both the initial games comfortably before the side was mixed with some of the other sides players. A slight lack of cohesion meant that they went into half time 2-0 down, having not conceded a try all morning this was an unfamiliar place to be in for usual AB's players, the side lost Millie to a nasty twisted knee in the first half and thankfully feedback since is that she's fine and will be back on the pitch soon. The half time talk was all about getting the players to assess what they thought they needed to change in the second half and they stated that if they worked as a unit on line speed in defence, putting pressure on Olney they would force them into making mistakes which Harb would use to turn the game around. The game plan they hatched amongst themselves worked better than they could have hoped and they finished the game 6-2 winners helping Harb to retain the Joules Cup for the 3rd year!

The Prima Cup probable/possible side ran out winners in the game against a strong Olney select side, the game was played at high tempo and with lots of physicality this giving the coaches much to ponder when it comes to selecting the players for this cup side.

The strength and depth in the squad is encouraging and as we move into a couple of weeks training before we play matches again we have some elements to work on as the players continually develop.

Onley as always were brilliant hosts and opposition and we very much look forward to locking horns with them again over the course of the season.
