On a wet and muddy day the only thing clean was the "clean sheet" the defence kept!

On this wet and rainy Sunday morning we were all delighted to make our way over to Melton Mowbray to start our qualifying for the County Cup....

It was a league format where we had to play three games, with the league winner going forward to the County Cup Finals.

Our game plan was to play it at a high pace and and keep it simple.

Game 1: MH 5 v Melton Mowbray 0.
We started strongly, making our tackles and putting Melton on the back foot from the whistle. The rucks were strongly contested with the Melton boys doing their best to hold onto possession. It was only our strong determination and some great tackling from Will L which gave us the opportunity to turn over a few rucks which this led to George T crossing the white wash to score the first try. Both Seb FS and James B added to our try count and we were 3-0 ahead at half time. We made our half time subs and continued to play with confidence and went on to win the game 5-0.

Game 2: MH 6 v Oakham 0
We took the pitch with the intent of being the 'best rucking team in Leicestershire'. Oakham however had other ideas and were very strong around the tackle zone. Seb FS was very busy stealing the ball in the rucks, Jake D continued to tackle well above his weight and James B had definitely brought his running boots, notching up another three tries. We moved the ball through the hands on a number of occasions, which led to the 'crowd' and alot of parents nodding with approval.

Game 3: MH 11 v Oadby Wyggs 0
The game plan was to maintain a clean sheet and to ensure that we maintained a tight defense. The guys tackled extremely well and the Oadby team soon began to hang their heads as any attack they launched was quickly snubbed out. We ran great straight lines, with Toby G and Jake D distributing the ball well. Jake S ran hard and straight dragging a handful of defenders along with him. Both Jamie T and Fergus G led from the front running strongly and by using their support intelligently which kept the game flowing. The 11 tries were well created however it was the 'no' tries conceded that was a great achievement.

We were a very proud set of parents and coaches. We did not concede a try over the entire day and the whole team played to win. The group are true young gentlemen as they managed their delight and excitement of winning with real sportsmanship.

Looking forward to the finals already.
