Finn Carnduff first learnt his rugby at Market Harborough RUFC, playing with us from the U6 to the U16s before joining the Tigers Academy. He has already represented England U18s and is now selected in the U18 Six Nations, taking place in France over the next couple of weeks.
He sets off to France fresh from his full debut as a Tiger, having played in the Premiership Rugby Cup match against London Irish.
Finn's journey should be an inspiration to our younger members. Believe in yourselves, you could be next?
We asked Finn for a few words.
What was it like representing your country and how did age grade rugby at MHRUFC help your journey?
"Being able to put on the white shirt and see the Red Rose on my chest was a dream come true. Six year old me used to tell my parents that one day I was going to play rugby for England and for that ambition to be realised made it even more special. Wearing the red rose also makes you think about so much more. You’re not only playing for yourself and the people who know you but for the whole country as you have been given the very great honour of representing them. It was a surreal experience when I played for the first time against Italy in August but having had the opportunity again, the feeling of pride doesn’t get any less.
My journey from tag at Under 6s to county cup success at U16s with Market Harborough taught me so many things including the basic skill set that every rugby player needs but most importantly it gave me a love of the sport that I will play for as long as I can at whatever level I can.
I am hugely grateful to MHRUFC for the help and guidance that I received from all of the coaches that I played under. They all know who they are and all of them taught me something that I use to this day and have been able to build upon. My family and I have also made some wonderful friends through the club many of whom were at Leicester Tigers for the Premiership Cup when I was given the wonderful opportunity to make my debut for the senior squad against London Irish. Next week I am off to France representing England in the Under 18s Six Nations tournament.
My six year old self dreamed of what I now find myself doing so I would say to everyone at MHRUFC- dreams do come true so hold on to them, work hard and believe. I wish you all every success".
